Buser — A new way to travel by bus Travel with more comfort, safety, and fair pricing Buser is a collaborative chartering platform that’s reshaping the bus travel market, delivering a new, high-quality, safe alternative with fair prices. Trips can be up to 60% cheaper than traditional options and include insurance, professional drivers, inspected vehicles, GPS monitoring, and other safety features. Most trips happen on sleeper, lie-flat, or semi-reclining buses, and you book through the website or app. To travel, you just show a photo ID—no need to go to a bus station or stand in line to buy, pick up, or print tickets. Buser Manifesto We believe life is better when we have choices. In Brazil, most cities are connected by just one bus company, and our airports and rail networks are not enough. That leaves us paying more because there aren’t real options. Many Brazilians end up taking risks with illegal transportation because they can’t afford the traditional ones. Buser is a safe, modern alternative. We connect people who want to travel to the same destination with executive charter companies. Our shared, sustainable technology boosts mobility in Brazil by creating a new transport option that’s safe, high-quality, and fairly priced. Just like app-based private rides changed urban mobility, it’s time for intercity travel to change for the better. For good. Our story November 2016 The Buser concept was born in November 2016, when Marcelo Abritta needed to organize a trip for 30 family members from Minas Gerais to Arraial da Ajuda, Bahia, where he would celebrate his wedding. To his surprise, chartering a 48-seat bus to take only 30 people—and paying the costs of keeping the bus parked for 4 days, plus the driver’s daily rates and accommodation—was cheaper than buying 30 round-trip tickets from the only company operating that route. Marcelo regularly travels between São Paulo, where he lives, and Belo Horizonte to visit family and friends. He thought: if it were possible to find a group of people who, like him, wanted to make that same trip, the newly formed group could charter a bus and save money. Since he travels a lot, over a year the impact would be significant. January 2017 Marcelo Abritta shared the idea with Marcelo Vasconcellos, and they started working on the project—quoting charter prices with different companies and on different routes. They were surprised by potential savings of up to 60% and decided to invest in the project. June 2017 Buser was born on June 2, 2017, initially as a Facebook page, where we would share our idea and its benefits for travelers. We expected to kick off “Collaborative Charters” within 6 months, but something impressive happened. In less than 30 days—with zero marketing spend—just by sharing the concept and relying on word of mouth, the page reached 10,000 followers. Hungry for new transport options, people asked for it, and Buser accelerated the launch. July 2017 Our first trip happened on July 7, 2017. Or rather, it would have happened, except for a court restriction imposed on the project. Buser made sure everyone traveled, refunded the amounts paid, and the two Marcelos started dedicating even more time to the project. September 2017 The initiative caught the attention of startup investment funds, and in September Buser closed its first seed round with Canary, Yellow Ventures, and Fundação Estudar Alumni partners. With the investment, we hired Brazil’s top regulatory law specialist to clarify to everyone the legality of our business model, which basically enables people with shared interests to meet, team up, and collectively hire a regular, safe service—above all, at fair prices—through cost-sharing, just like Marcelo Abritta wanted to do for his family at his wedding. After that clarification, we built a tech team and are investing to create a new option that is safe, modern, and accessible to everyone. Summary Some info about Buser: - The project started in June 2017 - In less than 30 days, the first trip sold out 12 hours after reservations opened - Received an undisclosed seed investment from 3 investment funds
